Bart Simpson krijgt nogal eens straf op school. Wat hij precies iedere keer op het bord schrijft bij het intro-filmpje is nogal eens onduidelijk. Gelukkig is er nu een website waarop wordt bijgehouden wat de schobbejak neerpent.

Napster ademt nog
Two federal appeals judges in Northern California delivered a last-minute reprieve for Napster Inc. this afternoon, overriding a judge's injunction and ruling that the Internet music-swapping service could continue to allow its users to trade copyrighted music.
Jason McCabe Calacanis, redacteur van Digital Music Weekly, vatte de strijd van de muziekindustrie tegen Napster zo samen: "If there was ever any hope for a peaceful segue into the future of the music industry, that hope died yesterday with Judge Patel's impassioned and flawed order to shut down Napster. If the music industry's goal is indeed to stop piracy, there is a very simple solution: provide music digitally over the Net at a reasonable rate. The truth is the music industry has no interest in providing its music digitally today, and its actions are clearly designed to stall progress and to destroy anyone who might want to innovate, or God forbid reiterate, the music industry. To be clear, the music industry wants to destroy Napster, Scour and MP3.com, not work with them."

Altavista in het nieuw
In de strijd om meer oogballen breidt Altavista zijn website uit met nog meer prefab informatie. Het feit dat de kracht van het web ligt in het feit dat er voor iedere interesse of deviatie wel een website te vinden is die (diepgaand) ingaat op het onderwerp naar keuze ontgaat ze klaarblijkelijk........
Portals lijken op TV, met de grootste gemene deler strategie hopen de digitale wegwijzers zoveel mogelijk publiek aan zich te binden....ze vergeten echter dat ze op deze manier juist niemand echt aanspreken en dat is in het tijdperk van de tailor-made spijkerbroeken en niche markten een rare gedachte. De mainstream is namelijk al lang dood en begraven.

Suddenly, every city wants its own knockout piece of modern architecture. Koolhaas recalls competing for the commission for a new museum of modern art in Rome. "The director said, 'We need a building that does for Rome what the Guggenheim did for Bilbao,"' he recounts. "That is a staggering statement, because Rome doesn't need to be put on the map."

It's not just that hardware is more advanced than software; the last big operating-systems breakthrough was the Macintosh, sixteen years ago, and today's hottest item is Linux, which is a version of Unix, which was new in 1976. Users react to the hard truth that commerical software applications tend to be badly-designed, badly-made, incomprehensible and obsolete by blaming themselves ("Computers for Morons," "Operating Systems for Livestock"), and meanwhile, money surges through our communal imagination like beer from burst barrels.
